Energy Conservation – a Savings Checklist

Energy Conservation – a Savings Checklist

Winter or summer, energy conservation will save you money. Here are a few easy tips to keep your power bill down.

* Ensure your hot water cylinder is in top condition or has a special ‘wrap’ to stop heat escaping.
* Use the shower rather than a bath.
* Use cold water for washing clothes.
* Insulate the ceiling well as with rising heat in the winter, much will escape out the roof if you don’t insulate to hold it in.
* Use 24-hour time switches and thermostats on heaters.
* Block off fireplaces when they are not in use to prevent heat loss.
* Even just taping large newspaper sheets around the fireplace for a few days until you can organise something more permanent and attractive is great for stopping draughts on cool evenings.

To follow are seven quick ideas for habits the whole family can easily adopt.

* Make sure filters and ventilation systems on clothes dryers are free from dust and lint.
* Fold clothes as soon as they are dry to reduce ironing.
* Switch off lights when you leave the room.
* Cook as many things as you can in the oven at one time (put that extra casserole in the freezer for a quick convenient meal another night).
* Fill the dishwasher before using it.
* Fill the kettle from the cold tap.
* Turn TVs and stereos off when not in use, rather than leaving on standby

It is the little things that do make a difference, something we can all adopt in our everyday life.

Have a Fantatsic Week,

Brad ;)
